Our indoor education site is the perigee atelier
The Perigee Atelier serves as Black Crown’s base camp and is our homeschool, educational site for special project time.
Morning project time is a beloved time when we create beautiful visual arts in the art studio, carry out specific, in depth projects and hold epic dance parties. Our makerspace is resource rich, Reggio-inspired and houses an abundant supply of creative, open-ended materials. Below is a picture of the indoor learning lab.
The Perigee Atelier

Black Crown’s home-based campus, The Perigee Atelier, is currently located in Curtis Park.
The Perigee Atelier offers five separate learning areas dedicated to mathematics, the sciences, creative arts, children’s library, LEGO superstation, writing center, piano music area, geography, cooking, language and literacy room and our garden project. This space is a wonderful asset to the Black Crown Collective.
When we’re not engaging in our nature-based, field studies, Black Crown kids can be found carrying out investigations, depending their understanding, sharpening their skills, creating their masterpieces, practicing new talents while at our homeschool learning lab. While at The Perigee Atelier, children are offered an abundance of resources to deepen their learning in core subject areas such as geometry, math, life sciences, physical sciences, visual art, geography, history, astronomy, language and literacy, foreign language, cooking…etc. The resource library is also well stocked with personally selected, high-quality children’s books at all reading levels.
